El presidente de Níger, Mamadou Tandja, y sus ministros se encuentran retenidos por los soldados amotinados que este martes dieron un golpe de Estado en ese país africano. Al menos tres militares han muerto en el ataque y, según Reuters, hay cinco heridos en un hospital. En un comunicado emitido por la televisión estatal, la junta militar autodenominada Consejo Supremo para la Restauración de la Democracia (CSRD, por sus siglas en inglés) estableció el toque de queda en todo el territorio y el cierre de fronteras. Posteriormente, un portavoz del CSRD, el coronel Goukoye Abdoulkarim, decretó en un mensaje leído a través de la radio pública la suspensión de la Constitución y la disolución de todas las instituciones del Estado.
